South Korea’s Hyundai Movex Co., the logistics automation solutions affiliate of Hyundai Group, announced on Wednesday that it signed a 20 billion won ($14.96 million) contract with EcoPro BM Co. to supply the logistics automation system in January.
Hyundai Movex plans to begin full-scale implementation this month, aiming for completion by 2026.
EcoPro BM, South Korea’s leading battery materials producer, is building a large-scale factory in Quebec, Canada, with SK On and Ford.
EcoPro BM invested 1.2 trillion won ($897 million) in the Quebec plant.
The company plans to 45,000 tons of cathode materials annually (sufficient for 540,000 electric vehicles) upon completion in 2026.
Hyundai Movex will provide various logistics solutions required for the cathode material process to the factory, including an automated storage (AS) and retrieval system (RS).
It plans to supply a package including its self-developed second-generation storage and retrieval machine (SRM), automated guided vehicles (AGV), high-speed vertical conveyors, and a warehouse management system (WMS).
This AGV model, capable of autonomous driving in all directions, is expected to increase production efficiency with more than 20 units to be deployed in the cathode material process.
