Hyundai Movex wins order for Sydney subway screen doors

Hyundai Movex, a Hyundai Group affiliate of South Korea, is moving to expand its overseas business in earnest with the opportunity to win an order to supply subway screen doors in Sydney, Australia.

The company said on Thursday that it signed a contract last month with Sydney Metro to manufacture, supply, and install platform screen doors and mechanical gap fillers and participate in the "Sydney Metro City & Southwest" project, Australia's largest urban railway construction project.

Under the terms of the agreement, Hyundai Movex will build 360 screen doors and 150 safety gap fillers in ten stations (Marrickville - Bankstown) on the Sydney Southwest line. The contract volume is A$40 million (35.7 billion won), and additional contracts are scheduled in the installation stage in the future.

The company explained that it succeeded in winning the order by promoting its mechanical gap fillers, an automatic device that fills the gap between the passenger car and the platform. Mechanical safety devices will be introduced for the first time in Australia.

Hyundai Movex's screen doors have been installed in more than 400 stations across Korea, but this is the first overseas installation case.

"We will do our best to successfully carry out our first overseas screen door business," said an official of Hyundai Movex.
