South Korean power plant builder Doosan Enerbility Co. has secured a series of contracts in Central Asia, including orders in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
The company received a notice to proceed from Harbin Electric International to supply equipment for the Syr Darya Phase II Natural Gas Power Plant in Uzbekistan.
This is Doosan Enerbility's first order in the country, with the contract valued at $45.9 million. The power plant will have a capacity of 1,600 MW and will be built in Syr-Darya Oblast with a target commercial operation date of 2026. Doosan Enerbility will supply 500-MW steam turbines and generators.
The Uzbek government plans to double its power generation capacity from 15.8 GW to 29.3 GW by 2030, making it a high-potential growth market. The head of Power Services BG at Doosan Enerbility, Park Hong-Wook, said the latest equipment supply contract will help the company strengthen its presence in Central Asian markets.
In addition, Doosan Enerbility won a power plant construction order in Kazakhstan last week. The company signed an agreement with Turkistan LLP to build a combined-cycle power plant. The plant is scheduled for completion in Aug. 2026, with Doosan Enerbility responsible for the entire process from design to commissioning. The contract value is about $879 million.
