Doosan Enerbility Co., a South Korean power plant builder, announced on Wednesday that it has signed a contract with Turkestan LLP, a subsidiary of Kazakh sovereign wealth fund Samruk-Kazyna, to construct a 1,000-megawatt combined cycle power plant in Shymkent, a southern industrial area of Kazakhstan.
The deal is worth 1.15 trillion won ($882 million) and will be completed by August 2026 using the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) method, which encompasses the entire process from design to installation and commissioning.
Doosan Enerbility's success in completing the Karabatan combined cycle power plant in 2020 and gaining the trust of the commissioning entity was crucial to the contract's successful signing, according to President Jung Yeon-in. He also stated that the company aims to strengthen its position in the Kazakh power generation market.
Doosan Enerbility previously won an order to build the 310-megawatt Karabatan power plant from Karabatan Utility Solutions, a Samruk-Kazyna subsidiary, in 2015, which was completed in 2020.
The company has also secured contracts for constructing combined cycle power plants such as Guam's Ukudu power station in 2020 and Saudi Arabia's Jafurah in 2022.
