KT's dietary management solution passes AI quality test

A South Korean artificial intelligence (AI) solution that analyzes and presents information on the type and nutritional content of food after a user takes a photo of it has received quality approval from an accredited certification body.

KT Corp. on Wednesday said its food management solution AI Food Tag received AI quality and test certification from the Korea Artificial Intelligence Association's Certification Center.

The tag assists dietary management by recognizing the type of food in a photo using AI imaging technology and analyzes nutritional components and calorie data for precision nutritional management, and can also manage the diets of patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes.

This solution classified 1,000 types of food images with about 96% accuracy in the center's certification process.

"A pre-learning model that learned from a large volume of image data is applied to recognize types of food with similar colors and shapes," KT said.

With other medical partners, the company will use this solution in a national project to develop extended reality twin technology for continuous management of blood sugar and lifelogging-based diabetes care.

The goal is to help diabetics manage their diets more easily and conveniently and accelerate digital treatment technology for such patients.
