South Korea’s KT Corp. from the fourth quarter will start outdoor robot delivery of food and daily necessities in Seoul’s upscale district of Gangnam.
The telecom giant on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding with Gangnam-gu Office on the company’s development of outdoor robot delivery and the office’s setup of an innovative model of delivery service using such robots.
KT will customize its robots for Gangnam by using a robotics platform, integrated control system, communications infrastructure and outdoor self-driving robots to deliver food and daily necessities quickly and accurately in the district.
KT and the office under the MOU also agreed to continue promoting technical R&D and service cooperation related to such robots to set a benchmark in the field. Their mid- to long-term goal is creation of a robot-friendly futuristic city.
