LG Electronics Inc., an industry frontrunner in applying artificial intelligence to home appliances, said on Wednesday it has joined forces with Altair Engineering Inc., a US tech firm, in developing an AI-powered validation platform for automotive parts.

Integrating AI technology into the vehicle component development process will provide LG’s clients with more reliable and high-quality solutions for products, including infotainment systems, LG said.

Altair Engineering, a Troy, Michigan-based information technology firm, provides software and cloud solutions for simulation, internet of things (IoT), high-performance computing, data analytics and artificial intelligence.

The South Korean electronics company said the new platform leverages a machine learning algorithm to accurately predict and measure product performance from an early stage of the design validation process.

“LG is committed to the digital transformation of its global operations. We’re using the latest DX technologies to enhance our R&D capabilities and achieve optimal resource management,” said Eun Seok-hyun, president of LG’s vehicle component solutions (VS) division.

TO INVEST $166 MILLION TO FOSTER AI TALENT

LG Group has said it will invest 200 billion won ($166 million) through 2023 to foster AI talent with an aim to secure about 1,000 experts in the sector by 2030.

In December 2020, it launched LG AI Research to spearhead the group’s AI-related technology development projects.

Last year, it unveiled Exaone, a supergiant AI, which has some 300 billion parameters and is equipped with multimodal capabilities to acquire and process information related to nearly all aspects of human communication.

More recently, the company said it will apply AI technology to a variety of its home gadgets such as refrigerators and TVs to improve the consumer experience.
