Doosan Robotics supplies baggage handling robots to Dutch Airport

South Korea's Doosan Robotics Inc. announced on Thursday its collaboration with Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and the Danish firm Cobot Lift.

This partnership focuses on deploying an advanced collaborative robot baggage handling system at the Dutch airport.

The partnership was formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MOU), marked by a signing ceremony.

Key industry figures were in attendance, including Doosan Robotics CEO Park In-won, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol Director Sybren Hahn, and Cobot Lift CEO Henrik Elm Gullov, highlighting the strategic significance of this initiative in modernizing airport operations.

Doosan Robotics has already demonstrated significant progress by delivering 20 units of this state-of-the-art system to Schiphol Airport.

These robots are outfitted with Cobot Lift's vacuum suction technology, feature a 1.5-meter arm reach, and have a lifting capacity of 25 kilograms, enabling them to handle baggage weighing up to 70 kilograms.

The agreement sets a target for complete implementation of the system throughout Amsterdam Airport Schiphol by 2024 and includes plans to extend the technology to additional regional airports and logistics centers.

“This supply of the baggage handling system opens new doors, not just in Dutch airports but also in other European regions,” said Park In-won, CEO of Doosan Robotics.

He added that with the upcoming establishment of their European headquarters in Germany, the company anticipates significant expansion in the European market.

Doosan Robotics is also collaborating with SAM XL, a research institute at Delft University of Technology, focusing on smart factory development for the European manufacturing sector.

Beyond Europe, the company is eyeing Latin America and Southeast Asia as potential markets, aligning with their ambitious goal to expand their global sales channels from 100 to 219 by 2026.

This move signals Doosan Robotics' commitment to innovation and global expansion, setting new standards in the industry.
