South Korea’s Doosan Group Vice Chairman Park Ji-won visited Automatica 2023 on Wednesday, a leading trade fair for smart automation held in Munich, to spur the technological developments of Doosan Robotics Inc.

The robotics unit of Doosan Group Robotics is a leader in Korea’s collaborative robot, or cobot market. Cobots are intended for direct human-to-robot interaction within a shared workspace.

Seeking new partnerships for Doosan Robotics, Park showed particular interest in global developers of autonomous mobile robots, 3D cameras and automation solutions.

“Cobots used to assist industrial robots and workers for repetitive tasks; today, powered by artificial intelligence, they are interacting with humans and increasing their scope,” said Park.

“Doosan will continue to explore opportunities in partnering with companies to expand its global market share,” he added.

Doosan Robotics joined the trade fair last year and showcased software for collaborative robots and automation solutions for cooking and welding. The company plans to participate in the exhibition every other year going forward.

Doosan Robotics started mass production of cobots in 2017 and unveiled the machine for the first time at Automatica in 2018.

The company is estimated to have around a 3% share of the global cobot market, according to Korea’s Eugene Investment & Securities Co. It filed for preliminary initial public offering screening to the Korea Exchange earlier this month.
