South Korea's LG Uplus Corp. announced on Thursday that it has completed the technology verification of next-generation software platforms with Ericsson-LG, a telecommunications equipment manufacturer, and will take the lead in building a 5G ecosystem based on it.
LG Uplus explained that through this verification, it confirmed its ability to provide data such as network, authentication information, and location information required for 5G services in the form of international standard application programming interfaces (APIs).
APIs are functions that convert various data held by telecom operators, such as location information, subscriber information, and current status, into a format that can be provided to third parties.
In particular, small- and medium-sized developers with limited core technological capabilities can develop innovative 5G services and create new business areas by utilizing the data provided in API format, the company said.
In the latest platform verification, LG Uplus completed demonstrations of utilizing API-formatted software platforms for public disaster control, remote-controlled cars, VR/AR services and more.
For example, in the event of a disaster, the 5G network using location information APIs can quickly respond to real-time evacuation and rescue by displaying high-quality control screens on drones.
Also, using subscriber information APIs, services such as remotely driving a vehicle to the location of the vehicle user and parking it remotely.
