Samsung Electronics to soon unveil Galaxy SmartTag2

Samsung Electronics Co. on Thursday announced its planned global release on Wednesday of Galaxy SmartTag2, the improved version of its mobile accessory for confirming location.

Launched in January 2021, the device can be attached to things without a communication function like pets or keys to confirm their location when lost. Low power-consuming Bluetooth and ultra-wideband technologies also enable location detection through other Galaxy smartphones or tablets even if network connection is lost.

The installed near-field communication (NFC) technology used in the Lost mode allows a user to check contact information and messages on other NFC-enabled devices when someone else acquires the user’s valuables.

The enhanced Compass View mode shows a SmartTag’s location, direction and distance through the smartwatch function Smart Things Find. The area where the map is visible on the smartphone screen is also bigger.

Galaxy SmartTag2’s battery life is double that of its predecessor, with use of up to 700 days in Power Saving mode and a maximum 500 days in Normal mode.

Galaxy SmartTag2 is also more durable due to the use of metal materials in the metal ring design. Its higher IP67 rating for water and dust resistance means the device can withstand being a meter under water for 30 minutes.

Galaxy SmartTag2 with the app Smart Things Pet Care can check a pet’s walking records.

Security functions are also stronger thanks to Samsung Nox. When an unknown SmartTag is detected, an alert is sent to the smartphone user to warn of unauthorized tracking to prevent abuse of the location confirmation service.
