Naver Cloud for the first time in South Korea has launched a specialized 5G mobile communications network at an apartment construction site.
The company on Thursday said it confirmed the effectiveness of its Ieum 5G network at the construction site of Hwaseong Bibong B2 Hoban Summit Apartments in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province.
“We used several Ieum 5G-based solutions to streamline operations and increase safety,” the company said.
Used at industrial sites needing high-speed communications networks such as buildings and factories, the system is a business-exclusive 5G network for a specific area that is faster and more stable than the public 5G services of SK Telecom Co., KT Corp. and LG Uplus Corp..
Naver Cloud built an Ieum 5G network at the construction site of an apartment complex covering 40,000 square meters and applied a construction solution on a trial basis. Autonomous drones, safety vests with video call function, wireless surveillance cameras and hydration heat sensors were tested and linked to the network.
“Installation of Ieum 5G at a construction site allows communication even in areas with no signal,” a company source said. “Even at the construction stage with no internet network installed, real-time integrated control is possible through smart Internet of Things or digital twin technology.”
Naver Cloud was the nation’s first to launch Ieum 5G, starting with its headquarters building Naver 1784, which opened last year. Ieum 5G connects building entrances and exits, elevators and self-driving robots to create a robot-friendly building.
