South Korea's automotive internet sales company Hyundai AutoEver and electrical equipment and automation specialist LS Electric Co. have adopted Ieum 5G, a specialized mobile communication network using 5G.
The Ministry of Science and ICT on Tuesday said it completed allocating Ieum 5G frequencies to both companies and registered them as key telecommunications business operators. Ieum 5G is a customized network that develops services through the allocation of frequencies usable by companies and institutions in specific areas only.
Hyundai AutoEver, an affiliate of Hyundai Motor Co., will build a performance test center for automotive production utilizing the convergence of Ieum 5G with technologies like artificial intelligence, self-driving robots and augmented reality at the carmaker's Uiwang R&D Center in the southern Seoul suburb of Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province.
"Hyundai Motor is also preparing to adopt a specialized 5G network at its electric vehicle plant in the US," the ministry said.
LS Electric is installing Ieum 5G at smart factories for plant automation control devices like smart observation cameras, robots and sensors.
