Samsung SDI to showcase solid-state battery tech at InterBattery 2023

South Korea's leading secondary battery maker Samsung SDI Co. has announced its participation in Korea's largest battery exhibition, InterBattery 2023, which will take place at COEX in Seoul's Gangnam for four days from Mar. 15.

At the exhibition, Samsung SDI will showcase its prismatic, cylindrical and pouch-type batteries, along with IT and wearable power tools that are equipped with the batteries, and energy storage systems (ESSs).

One of the highlights of Samsung SDI's exhibition will be the unveiling of Volvo's large electric truck "FM Electric," which is equipped with 28,000 Samsung SDI's 21,700 cylindrical batteries. These batteries use a high nickel cathode material with a nickel content of 91%, resulting in high power and energy density.

Samsung SDI will also introduce cutting-edge technologies, including its solid-state battery technology, which uses solid electrolyte materials and lithium-anode materials to improve the battery's life. It also plans to complete a pilot line of solid-state batteries in the first half of this year and start producing prototypes in the second.

In addition, Samsung SDI will display its E5S modules and racks, which are ESS models that enhance safety by installing direct injection systems and water cooling systems.
