Samsung SDS to offer customized cloud services

Samsung SDS Co. is ready to offer easy-to-use, customized cloud storage services to help its clients' digital transformation, its Chief Executive Hwang SungWoo said on March 10.

Being at the early stage of the cloud-based services, the company will establish cloud platforms at its 12 oversea data centers within the first half of this year to boost its capacity.

Such platforms target overseas companies in Europe, North America and Asia.

Under the brand name of “Cloud. Simply Fit,” Samsung will host data and software on its cloud, which its users can access at any time through the internet.

Hwang, a former electrical engineering professor at Korea University, likens the services to using tap water and electricity.

But cloud services ensure the privacy and security of individual workloads.

On Friday, Samsung SDI also unveiled its latest data center built in Dongtan, Hwaseong to reporters.

It is South Korea’s first high-performance computer facility, in which Samsung had invested more than 160 billion won ($120 million).

The data center is designed to offer high-speed and high-capacity services to artificial intelligence technology companies.

Hwang is confident in his business as a cloud service provider to build relevant infrastructure; as a managed service provider offering management and consulting advice; and to provide software as a service, a subscription-based service.

Last year, South Korea's state-run research institute said that it would introduce a high-performance supercomputing system by 2024, more than 24 times faster than the current model.

The supercomputer will be able to process larger-capacity data suitable for artificial intelligence research.
