Samsung SDS Co., South Korea’s information technology service company, is set to expand its global cloud service business in cooperation with Amazon Web Services Inc.

Samsung SDS said on Thursday that it has joined AWS’ exclusive global business network, which major companies in other countries such as Verizon Communications Inc. and NEC Corp. have also joined. Samsung SDS is the only South Korean company in the alliance.

“Based on the AWS network, we will work on various global businesses,” said a Samsung SDS source.

It plans to focus on the expansion of its market presence as a managed service provider (MSP), a third-party company that remotely manages customers’ IT infrastructure and end-user systems.

TARGET MARKET EXPECTED TO GROW TO $552.4 BILLION

The South Korean company was set to provide its software as a service (SaaS) based on AWS cloud service. Samsung SDS already developed the AICC, an artificial intelligence-based contact center solution, the Brightix AI, an AI analysis platform, and the Brityworks, an enterprise task automation and collaboration solution.

“Combining Samsung SDS’ industry expertise with AWS’s innovative services, we will expand the MSP cloud business and actively support cloud technology-based digital transformation to increase customer business value,” said Hong Hye-jin, Samsung SDS’ head of strategic marketing department.

Samsung SDS recently launched a new cloud service division to strengthen its MSP capabilities. The unit is in charge of cloud infrastructure, product planning and service execution with 4,500 employees.

The global managed service market size is expected to grow to $552.4 billion by 2028 at a compound annual growth rate of 12.7% from 2021 to 2028, according to Grand View Research Inc., an India and US-based market research and consulting company.

“The cloud service unit plans to actively expand the MSP businesses from consulting to cloud transformation, development and operations in cooperation with global cloud partners,” another source at Samsung SDS said.
