Hyundai Mobis tests cutting-edge vehicle broadcast platform in North America

South Korea's Hyundai Mobis, which developed the next-generation automotive broadcast system ATSC 3.0 in the US, has teamed up with Sinclair Broadcast Group, the largest media group in the US, to test a broadcast platform capable of showing high-definition video in a vehicle on the North American market.

Hyundai Mobis on Monday said it demonstrated the ATSC 3.0 system in Washington and Baltimore, Maryland, on Dec. 20 with representatives from Sinclair, MileOne, one of America's top three car dealers, and Cast.Era, an ATSC 3.0 solution company, attending.

ATSC 3.0, the first next-generation broadcast standard in the US in 20 years, provides high-speed transmission and reception of high-definition video and data using broadcast frequencies and internet protocol. Because UHD video and data can be exchanged in both directions indoors and outdoors, Korean companies are seeking to utilize the system in a range of ways such as in-vehicle services.

The ATSC 3.0 system offers a range of functions for a vehicle like broadcasting high-definition TV in real time, sending real-time alerts of a disaster or emergency, presenting advertising tailored for regions, improving the navigation function through a GPS signal and using over-the-air vehicle firmware.
