▲ [LIVESTREAM] THE GENESIS GV60 WORLD PREMIERE

If you own Hyundai Motor Co.'s latest premium electric crossover, the GV60, set for roll-out next month, you can just touch the handle and show your face to the camera on the B-pillar, and it will unlock the door.

What if it’s already dark out and the weather is cloudy? Never mind, it works, according to the top South Korean automaker.

Once you get in, you can start the car with your fingerprint and drive away without a key. If you feel cold, just say so. The GV60 will keep you warm with an automatic temperature sensing system.

“Genesis always strives to design customer experiences that go beyond products and ultimately build an authentic relationship with its customers,” said Luc Donckerwolke, Hyundai's chief creative officer and chief brand officer of Genesis, during the GV60 online premiere on Thursday.

“That is what makes Genesis truly different.”

Following in the footsteps of the more mainstream IONIQ 5 EV and Kia Corp.'s EV6, the automaker has unveiled the GV60, the luxury Genesis brand’s first electric vehicle that sits on the E-GMP, the automotive group’s dedicated EV platform.

Hyundai, which already showcased its design of the GV60 in August, said the latest luxury electric car is equipped with innovative technologies to provide a unique electric vehicle experience, including Face Connect and its Fingerprint Authentication System.

FULL OF NEW FEATURES

Other new features include the OTA Software Update, which allows drivers to wirelessly update major electronic devices such as the EV integrated control device, suspension, brakes, steering wheel, airbags and the advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) in addition to the infotainment system, according to Hyundai.

At Thursday’s online event, Hyundai showed a film spot titled “Plug Into Your Senses,” which introduces the vehicle’s various technologies through a narration that personifies the GV60 and highlights its connection to the driver.

The GV60 is a small crossover utility vehicle (CUV) that looks like a tall hatchback but comes with a few upscale touches.

For the first time under the Genesis brand, the GV60 has a “clamshell hood,” a single panel that combines the hood and fenders, creating a sleek impression for the EV model by removing seams between the parts.

One of the most noticeable features in the GV60’s interior design, Hyundai said, is the Crystal Sphere, a sphere-shaped shift knob.

When the vehicle is turned off, the Crystal Sphere becomes the vehicle’s mood lighting and while driving, the sphere rotates and the shift knob appears.

TO COMPLETE GENESIS LINEUP BY 2030

Hyundai said the GV60 comes in three options: rear-wheel drive, four-wheel drive and four-wheel performance version, with price tags ranging from 60 million won to 70 million won ($50,000-$60,000).

Each model features a 77.4 kWh battery, and the standard rear-wheel-drive model has a maximum driving range of 451 km per charge.

When charging at 350 kW with the ultra-speed charging function, the GV60’s battery charge can go from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes.

The GV60 also comes with a “boost mode” to give it a more dynamic and luxurious element, according to Hyundai. The mode enables the vehicle to go from 0 to 100 km an hour in just four seconds.

For drivers who are looking for a more dynamic experience, the GV60 features a “drift mode,” it said.

The Genesis segment will complete its lineup with eight hydrogen and battery models by 2030 and aims to sell 400,000 units a year in global markets, according to Hyundai Motor.
