Hyundai Glovis Co., the logistics unit of South Korea's Hyundai Motor Group, announced on Wednesday that it will be a participant in Breakbulk America 2023 (BBA 2023), set to take place in Houston, Texas, the US from Sept. 26 to 28.

The exhibition is North America's premier event for the bulk cargo industry, which includes commodities such as grains, ores, and heavy machinery that aren't individually packaged.

The bulk cargo industry is categorized into dry bulk, liquid bulk, and breakbulk, the latter of which encompasses items too large or heavy to be loaded into standard shipping containers. Breakbulk items often include industrial equipment, electric locomotives, steel products, and construction and mining machinery.

Hyundai Glovis aims to use the event as a platform to network and acquire new global clients, with a particular focus on the US.

The event is expected to draw participants from global energy firms as well as businesses involved in maritime projects such as heavy equipment and railway shipping.

Hyundai Glovis also revealed plans to engage with US-based inland transportation logistics companies and freight forwarders with the goal of creating business synergies.

In 2019, the South Korean company expanded its US footprint by launching a ground transportation subsidiary, Glovis America Transportation (GET), which focuses on the direct trucking of finished automobile parts.

"The global auto shipping market is currently under strain due to increased demand for finished car exports, leading to a shortage in supply," a Hyundai Glovis source said. "By participating in BBA 2023, we intend to showcase our maritime capabilities and consider this as a significant avenue for long-term expansion in our maritime and logistics operations."
