CJ Logistics revamps itself into tech-based company

South Korea’s CJ Logistics on Monday said it has revamped its internal organization that it had maintained since its foundation in 1930.

The reshuffle is aimed at providing integrated services to shipping companies by classifying them into domestic and global and changing the basis for CJ Logistics' organizational structure from one tailored for labor-intensive sectors to technology.

The company’s domestic business division integrated its sales and operating units with those for ports, warehousing and delivery. Under this reorganization, shipping companies can receive one-stop service from delivery to storage and transportation instead of using the company’s logistics service, which requires consultation with the courier sales department for parcel delivery and the e-commerce department for warehouse storage.

The company’s cost system, which is based on the differing standards of each department, will also be unified to the standard cost method.

The global business division revamped its organization in response to shifts in global supply chains amid Sino-US friction and to target new growth engines such as cross-border parcel delivery, secondary batteries and defense logistics.

The business division opened a global business planning office, and forwarding, port loading and unloading, and transportation units that handle import and export logistics were expanded and integrated into the International Freight Solution Headquarters.

The research arm leading logistical advancement also saw a major boost. While the TES (Technology, Engineering, System and Solution) Innovation Center develops original technologies for logistics automation, a data solution group launched in the domestic business division and a global organization in the global business division will boost research on applied technologies for each business line.

“Based on state-of-the-art technology, we will maintain our dominant No. 1 position on the domestic market and show our competitiveness on the global stage,” a CJ Logistics source said.
