KG Mobility to develop Level 3 autonomous driving system

South Korea's KG Mobility Corp. announced on Tuesday it partnered with domestic autonomous self-driving software firm Autonomous a2z.

The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate on the development of autonomous self-driving systems and manufacture unmanned vehicles.

The MOU outlines collaborative milestones including advancements in autonomous technology, joint R&D for Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Level 2 driver assistance, development of SAE Level 3 and 4 vehicles, system specification collaboration, and component sharing for mass production.

KG Mobility highlighted its ongoing efforts to perfect its unique autonomous driving technology, referencing the Deep Control brand, an advanced driver assistance systems (Level 2 driver assistance) technology that supports simultaneous vehicle acceleration and steering control.

This partnership aligns with KG Mobility's previously announced Autonomous Self-Driving Roadmap in September. The firm remains dedicated to forging ties with leading tech firms in the autonomous domain.

On the flip side, Autonomous a2z, having recently secured 34 billion won ($25 million) in its Series B funding, showcased an electric vehicle equipped with its in-house developed autonomous self-driving software at the expo. This model is slated for development into the Proto-Car by 2024.
