KG Mobility Corp., formerly Ssangyong Motor Co., on Wednesday unveiled its much-anticipated electric vehicle (EV), the Torres EVX.
The Torres model, initially launched as a gasoline-powered version last July, quickly became a best-seller with over 50,000 units sold in just over a year—setting a new record for the company's fastest sales achievement.
The Torres EVX comes equipped with a 152.2 kW front-wheel-drive motor, delivering a maximum output of 207 horsepower and 34.6 kgf·m of torque. This marks a significant performance increase, with roughly 22% more maximum output and 21% more torque compared to its internal combustion engine predecessor.
Drivers have the option of selecting from four driving modes: Comfort, Sports, Eco, and Winter, allowing for a tailored driving experience.
The vehicle also includes a three-stage regenerative braking system, which helps recharge its battery during deceleration.
Designed for both urban and outdoor adventures, KG Mobility emphasizes the Torres EVX's spacious 839L cargo area and 175mm minimum ground clearance.
The electric SUV comes equipped with a 73.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) blade battery, offering a single-charge range of up to 433 km.
LFP batteries are renowned for their lower manufacturing costs and superior stability compared to traditional nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) batteries.
In a strategic move, KG Mobility collaborated with EV battery producer BYD from the early stages of the Torres EVX's development.
This partnership optimized the SUV's battery management system (BMS) and integrated BYD's cutting-edge 'blade battery' technology—increasing energy density by 20% and boosting durability against external impacts.
The Torres EVX also incorporates KG Mobility’s proprietary intelligent adaptive cruise control (IACC) technology and boasts a 12.3-inch large-screen cluster connected to a 12.3-inch infotainment and navigation system, culminating in a panoramic display.
