South Korean food giant CJ CheilJedang Corp. said on Monday that its Bibigo products will be sold in Coles, Australia’s second-largest supermarket chain.
Following its entry into Woolworths, the top supermarket in Australia, CJ CheilJedang has secured more than half of the mainstream food retail market in the nation.
Bibigo will sell seven products, including three types of Bibigo dumplings (pork & chive, vegetable & corn, and kimchi), rice balls, fish-shaped pastries, and hot dogs.
Rice balls, fish-shaped pastries, and hot dogs are making their debut in Australia’s mainstream retail channels amid growing international interest in Korean street food.
CJ CheilJedang also plans to enter IGA (Metcash), Australia’s fourth-largest supermarket chain early next year.
With Woolworths, Coles, and IGA combined, CJ CheilJedang will have access to over 3,000 stores, covering more than 70% of Australia’s grocery market.
Oceania, including Australia, is a major region in CJ CheilJedang’s global K-food expansion strategy.
Bibigo products are also available in Woolworths, Costco, the convenience store chain EzyMart in Australia, and major supermarket chains in New Zealand, such as New World and Pak'nSave.
