South Korea's food giant CJ CheilJedang Corp. announced on Sunday that it released its Bibigo frozen Gimbap products at Woolworths, Australia's number-one supermarket chain.
This is the first time Korean-style gimbap has been introduced on the main distribution channels in the Australian food market.
This launch follows the products' success in Japan, prompting CJ CheilJedang to extend its market to Australia.
Woolworths, which operates over a thousand stores nationwide, began selling six varieties of Bibigo dumplings last year.
Building on the dumplings' popularity, CJ CheilJedang expects the inclusion of gimbap further to boost the local profile of the Bibigo brand.
The company plans to expand K-street food in Australia by promoting Bibigo K-food strategy products, including gimbap.
Gimbap is part of CJ CheilJedang’s strategy to promote K-Street Food as a new growth engine for the global expansion of K-food.
It was first launched in Japan in March last year and has since entered about 2,000 major retail outlets including Aeon.
