Samsung Electro-Mechanics has achieved its highest ranking in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) evaluation of climate change response. The company said on Thursday that it was inducted into the CDP Platinum Club, the highest honor offered by the organization.

The CDP, a global non-profit ESG organization, annually releases assessments of major listed companies' efforts to combat climate change, including information on greenhouse gas emissions and reduction strategies.

The evaluation covers 88 key metrics, including calculations and verifications of greenhouse gas emissions and reduction targets, for a total of 18,700 global companies and 300 domestic companies.

Samsung's commitment to reducing its carbon footprint through a dedicated climate change response organization was highly rated across all evaluation categories. The company has implemented initiatives to promote the use of renewable energy, increase energy efficiency through measures such as high-efficiency refrigeration, and publicly disclose greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 3) in all stages of product processing, transportation, and disposal.

The company also received the Excellence Award in the CDP's water management evaluation, due to its impressive water reuse rate of 24% as of the end of 2021, a result of goals set for water reduction.

"As environmental awareness continues to be raised, Samsung is integrating environmental considerations into its management activities and strategies. Samsung will enhance its environmental and energy management systems and actively pursue carbon neutrality," said Chang Duckhyun, CEO of Samsung Electro-Mechanics.
