South Korea's heavy industrial company Doosan Enerbility Co. and the government-owned Korea Western Power Co. (KWP) will jointly streamline domestic power generation technology and optimize plant operations.

Both sides on Monday said they signed a business agreement at Bundang Doosan Tower in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, on stabilization of a heat-and-power plant in Gimpo, Gyeonggi, and maintenance of a coal gasification combined cycle (IGCC) plant in Taean County, South Chungcheong Province.

Under this agreement, KWP, as the main operator of the two plants, will share operational data on each facility, and Doosan Enerbility will use the data to stabilize the facilities' performance and equipment.

Promoted as a government research project, the Taean plant began commercial operations in 2016 with the participation of KWP, Doosan Enerbility, and domestic think tanks and universities. The Gimpo Combined Cycle Power Plant did the same in July this year after Doosan Enerbility in 2019 signed a 270-megawatt large gas turbine contract with KWP.

“Thanks to Korea Western Power's intent to advance domestic technology in power generation, technologies developed by Doosan Enerbility and domestic industry, academia and research institutes like gas turbines and IGCC could receive demonstration opportunities,” Doosan Enerbility CEO Jeong Yeon-in said. “We will contribute to the export of domestic power generation technology as well as the creation of an industrial ecosystem.”
