LG Electronics to offer energy-saving services in US

South Korea's LG Electronics Inc. is set to bring its auto demand response (DR) service to the US, utilizing its smart home platform, LG ThinQ, the company said on Monday.

Auto DR enables automatic energy-saving control of household appliances by integrating with local DR information. This program recommends reducing electricity consumption during periods of high demand and offers incentives for participation.

In collaboration with OhmConnect, an American energy solutions company, LG Electronics plans to launch the auto DR service in California, New York, and Texas. The implementation is expected to commence this month.

OhmConnect is a platform firm that caters to over 200,000 US households with its DR services.

Through cloud integration with OhmConnect, LG ThinQ responds to peak demand by automatically adjusting energy usage. When prompted by the local power company to reduce consumption, LG ThinQ can modify settings, such as raising air conditioner temperatures, to conserve energy.

LG Electronics also provides Auto-DR services within South Korea. In May, they entered into an agreement to offer Auto-DR services for an energy-self-sufficient city project in Naju City. Additionally, plans were announced in March to implement Auto-DR services across 15 apartment complexes, benefiting approximately 19,000 households in collaboration with the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
