Samsung gets AWS platinum certification for water stewardship

Samsung Electronics Co. has been awarded the highest level of certification for water management by the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS), a leading global water management evaluation organization

The number of certified sites has expanded from one to seven. AWS recognized Samsung Electronics for its ambitious goals and governance in increasing the use of treated wastewater, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and local governments.

AWS is an organization that evaluates companies' water management systems, assessing over 100 criteria including the management of water pollutants, water sanitation, and the impact on aquatic ecosystems within watersheds.

It awards certifications at three levels: Platinum, Gold, and Core.

Out of over 270 facilities from approximately 70 companies worldwide that have undergone AWS certification audits, only about 50 have achieved Platinum status.

The Device Solutions (DS) Division’s Hwaseong campus was the first to receive Platinum certification in March last year.

This year, the Giheung and Pyeongtaek campuses, along with the Xi’an campus in China, joined, bringing the total to four semiconductor facilities that have been certified.

Additionally, for the first time this year, the Digital eXperience (DX) Division’s Suwon, Gumi, and Gwangju sites also received Platinum certification.
