LG Electronics Inc. said on Sunday that it is offering technology training to help talented Cambodian youths become more self-reliant.

For four days starting Feb. 7, a special class on home appliance service technology was held for 12 students at the Hope Vocational School in Phnom Penh, the Cambodian capital.

The program, jointly operated by LG and KOICA, the Korea International Cooperation Agency. aims to pass on core technological knowledge on LG home appliances and service skills for each product to the youngsters attending the school, thereby imparting valuable job skills.

The classes focused on core technical aspects of air conditioners, their installation and operation, and service case studies. Cambodia's average annual temperature of 27 degrees Celsius means that air conditioner use is common all year around.

In cooperation with KOICA, LG Electronics is running the Hope Vocational School in countries such as Cambodia and Ethiopia to nurture local industrial workforces and help participants become economically self-sufficient.

The Korean company also cooperates with local companies to help students who have completed the training course secure jobs.

"As a good corporate citizen, we will continue leading social activities that can contribute to the betterment of local communities," said Lee Seung-ho, head of LG Electronics' Cambodia unit.
