LG Electronics Inc. has joined forces with Qualcomm Technology to enhance collaboration in the fields of autonomous driving and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

According to a local media report, Eun Seok-hyun, head of LG Electronics Vehicle Component Solutions, recently met Jim Cathey, chief commercial officer of Qualcomm, at the Magok Science Park in Seoul.

The two companies discussed ways to expand their joint efforts in autonomous driving and ADAS.

As it diversifies its electronics business, LG Electronics is strengthening automotive electronics devices as its main business item after home appliances and televisions. Qualcomm, on the other hand, is looking beyond mobile application processors and venturing into self-driving semiconductor chips.

The meeting is seen as a step forward in the strengthening of the alliance between LG and Qualcomm. The two companies are working together on the development of  Web OS Auto, an infotainment platform for vehicles, and 5G communications-connected car platforms.

Jim Cathey expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, saying on social media, "I appreciate LGEVS' long-term partnership with Qualcomm, and I look forward to further strengthening our collaboration with the LGEVS team!"
