South Korea's SK Signet Inc., which produces ultra-fast chargers for electric vehicles (EVs), on Monday said its European branch SK Signet Europe in December last year landed its first order in the UK worth 10 billion won ($7.7 million).
Early last month, the company announced at CES 2023, the world's largest trade exhibition for IT and home appliances held in Las Vegas, that it opened the branch in Frankfurt, Germany.
SK Signet will search for sales and business partners on the Continent targeting five countries that lead EV supply in the region: Germany, UK, Italy, France and Spain.
The company set up a service center in Luton, England, to form a continuous management and real-time customer response system after receiving the order. The branch will focus on customized charging solutions and prompt response to customer inquiries given the need for specialized client service due to differences in laws and regulations of each European country.
Under its Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy announced in 2020, the European Union (EU) set a goal of installing over three million EV chargers on the Continent by 2030. On Feb. 14, the European Parliament passed a law banning from 2035 the sale of vehicles with internal combustion engines in the eurozone after receiving approval from EU member states.
"By contributing to the creation of EV infrastructure in Europe, we will advance the EV era in practical terms and help the attainment of global net zero," said SK Signet CEO Shin Jung-ho.
