KCC acquires international info security certification

KCC Corp., South Korea's applied materials chemical company, announced on Monday that it has acquired ISO 27001, an international standard for managing information security.

ISO 27001 is a certification awarded only to companies that have undergone strict evaluation and review of 14 areas of information security management, including physical and environmental security, network security and 114 control items through an accredited certification body designated by the International Organization for Standardization.

To meet the standards of the 14 areas, including information security policy, asset management and operational security, KCC has made company-wide efforts for five months since last October, such as establishing a security management system.

This decision was made due to the increased risk of information breaches as technology such as artificial intelligence (AI) and big data platforms rapidly spreads.

"After obtaining certification, we need to receive periodic assessments to maintain the certification. By continuously strengthening security and systematically establishing an information protection control system, we can improve employee awareness of security and enhance crisis response capabilities," said a KCC official.
