Hyundai Motor Co.'s premium brand Genesis on Friday unveiled the GV70 facelift as the leading South Korean automaker plans to launch the luxury midsize sport utility vehicle next month in the country to cement its dominance in the segment at home.

The facelift is the GV70’s first redesign since its debut in December 2020. The SUV is one of the best-selling Genesis models with more than 200,000 units sold worldwide since the launch.

In South Korea, the GV70 beat most imported luxury midsize SUVs. Hyundai sold 34,474 units of the GV70 last year, Korea Automobile & Mobility Association data showed.

The sales volume was far more than the Volvo XC60, the No. 1 imported premium midsize SUV in the country last year with sales of 5,831 units, according to South Korean media reports.

REFINED DETAILS

The GV70 facelift added intricate details to improve key elements of its exterior such as the dual-weave mesh radiator grille, the so-called G-Matrix Crest Grille. It also used advanced microlens array technology for the iconic two-line headlamps.

The front bumper was enhanced with a skid plate that creates a wide and robust appearance, complemented by horizontally expanded air ducts. The SUV was equipped with 19-inch dark hypersilver wheels.

In the rear, the turn signals were redesigned to align with the front two-line concept while being relocated from the bumpers to the rear combination lamps, improving visibility for other vehicles.

On the rear spoiler, a module integrating a digital center mirror and built-in camera was applied to the lower part of the line-shaped high-mounted stop lamp.

Mood lamps were extended from the upper door trim to the center fascia.

GV70 SPORT PACKAGE

Genesis also unveiled the newly designed GV70 Sport package, aimed to maximize driving fun.

The trim showcases a double-layered G-Matrix Crest Grille and enlarged air intakes. Newly designed five-spoke 21-inch dark metallic wheels with each spoke featuring two black lines engraved where it meets the rim were installed to boost the SUV’s athletic stance.

The rear comes with a dark chrome diffuser and muffler tips, exclusive to the Sport package for the GV70. The Sport package comes with a D-cut steering wheel.
