Hyundai Motor Co. has unveiled its brand-new Genesis sport utility vehicle (SUV) model GV70, the latest urban midsize SUV from the South Korean automaker's luxury car brand.

The reveal premiered on Dec. 8 via a livestream showcase, The GV70: A Travelogue.

The long-awaited Genesis GV70 flaunts an impressive style, featuring a dynamic and athletic exterior with a driver-oriented interior, while still catering to the needs of a SUV customer.

Owners can customize their SUV with a wide range of color combinations and various interior materials, with 13 exterior colors and five interior colors to choose from.

The exterior design of the GV70 is energetic and sporty, yet refined. The SUV completes its dynamic look with a strong blackout bezel, the three-dimensional pattern of a dark chrome garnished grille mesh design, an exclusive bumper design, a large circular muffler, a body-colored diffuser, and 19- and 21-inch sport-exclusive wheels.

The SUV is available in three different engine configurations: gasoline 3.5 turbo; gasoline 2.5 turbo; and a 2.2 diesel engine.

Meanwhile, the driver-oriented interior offers comfort, practicality, and convenience for passengers, with the design reportedly inspired by Korean architecture.

The GV70’s refined interior gives passengers a generous amount of space that combines low seating to offer a sense of comfort. The riding experience is enhanced by the SUV's optimized layout, featuring superior reclining angles, wide legroom and ventilated rear seats.

CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY ENHANCES GV70 EXPERIENCE

The Genesis GV70 has adopted a wide range of new technologies that not only heighten the SUV experience but also protect passengers from risks both inside and outside the vehicle.

The GV70 introduces groundbreaking technologies including a fingerprint authentication system connected to the simple in-car payment service Genesis CarPay, alongside the advanced real occupant alert (ROA) system, which runs on radar sensors.

The fingerprint authentication system allows drivers to make in-car payments using their fingerprints. When placed in valet mode, it prevents any personal information from appearing on the screen when others drive their car.

Also, if the driver opts to start the engine using the fingerprint authentication, the SUV will automatically start from the driver's preferred settings, such as adjusting the positions of the driver’s seat, steering wheel, and head-up-display as well as updating the navigation system’s recent destinations and infotainment sound volume settings.

The GV70 is equipped with a robust package of safety features that boost its market competitiveness. It offers a high level of convenience and safety by applying a variety of technologies such as forward collision-avoidance assist, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, intelligent speed limit assist, navigation-based smart cruise control and highway driving assist II.

Meanwhile, the SUV's dual filter system ensures optimal interior air quality by preventing fine dust and bacteria from entering the engine room with both pre-filter and interior cabin filters. It also removes indoor bioaerosols by up to 99.9% within 10 minutes based on its antibacterial function.

The GV70’s radar-based advanced rear occupant alert technology is also a key feature as it utilizes sensors mounted inside the vehicle to detect rear-seat passengers and alert the driver of their conditions in multiple phases.

The sensors are capable of sensing when rear-seat passengers move their limbs as well as detecting even minor respiratory patterns, for example to alert drivers to a sudden change in a sleeping infant's movements or breathing.

Also, Hyundai's upgraded augmented reality navigation provides directions that indicate the exact direction based on the destination and location, compared to the current version that offers left or right direction icons.

“Genesis has been striving to build an integrated and sincere connection on every aspect directly related to consumers, such as design, product, service and lifestyle,” said Chang Jae-hoon (Jay), the global head of the Genesis brand.

“Based on its customer-centric philosophy, Genesis will continue to provide luxurious models that consumers want and that will bring special memories to their daily lives,” Chang added.
