Kia Corp.'s Niro, a compact crossover SUV hybrid and electric vehicle (EV) model, has surpassed the 1 million global sales milestone since its first launch in 2016, according to the company on Feb. 25.

As of the end of 2023, global cumulative sales stood at nearly 998,000 units.

Domestic sales in January totaled 1,241 units, while exports exceeded 10,000 units, bringing the total to 1,008,822 units.

Over 80% of Niro sales came from overseas markets.

In South Korea, sales reached 23,475 units, while overseas sales reached 145,617 units, for a total of 169,092 units last year.

Kia's flagship eco-friendly SUV, the Niro, offers different options: a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) launched in 2016, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) introduced in 2017, and an EV model launched in 2018.

The second-generation Niro, launched in 2022, emphasizes fuel efficiency and utilizes eco-friendly materials and technologies.

The same year, Kia launched the Niro Plus, its first purpose-built vehicle (PBV).
