Grandeur regains Korean sedan crown after two-year hiatus

Hyundai Motor Co.'s Grandeur mid-to-large-sized sedan is poised to reclaim its crown as the best-selling Korean car in the domestic passenger car segment after a two-year hiatus.

From January to November this year, the Grandeur outsold all competitors with a commanding 104,652 units, according to figures from the Korea Automobile & Mobility Industry Association (KAMA) and the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA).

This marks a significant comeback for the Grandeur, which slipped to second place behind Kia Corp.'s Sorento SUV last year. Kia's Sorento remains a strong contender, but with 77,743 units sold, it falls behind the Grandeur by nearly 27,000 units.

Other popular domestic sedans include the Kia Carnival minivan (64,552 units), the Kia Sportage SUV (64,010 units), and the Hyundai Avante sedan (60,222 units).

In the imported car market, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class reigns supreme with 22,211 units sold, though its sales dropped from 28,318 units last year.

The second top seller was the BMW 5 Series with 18,907 units. Rounding out the top five are the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A6, and Lexus ES.
