LG takes lead in nurturing young AI talent by holding AI hackathon

South Korea's LG announced on Sunday that it held the "LG AI Hackathon" for nurturing young artificial intelligence (AI) talent for two days from Saturday at LG Academy in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province.

A total of 104 young people in 33 teams participated in the event. They advanced to the offline finals after achieving excellent outcomes in the online preliminary rounds held last month, with 898 participants in 495 teams.

The theme of the competition was the development of an artificial intelligence model for product quality identification to build a control system for a smart factory.

Participants competed to redefine the problem using the given data and improve the AI model developed in the preliminary rounds during the two-day event.

LG provided actual industrial data from the LG Smart Factory for both the online rounds and offline finals, allowing participants to build practical skills.

After the competition, the company will evaluate the submitted codes and select the final winners. The award ceremony will take place in early April.

The top prize and the best prize winners will receive benefits such as an exemption from document screening when applying for employment with LG companies. In addition, scholarship and prize money totaling more than 60 million won ($46,000) will be awarded to all finalists, including the final winning team.
