LIG Nex1 signs contract for next-gen military radio system

LIG Nex1 Co. said on Thursday it has signed a contract worth 80 billion won ($63.1 million) with the Defense Acquisition Program Administration for linked weapon systems equipped with next-generation tactical multi-band multirole radio (TMMR).

Linked weapon systems on which the vehicle-type TMMR is mounted include the wheeled command post vehicle, 30-mm wheeled anti-aircraft gun, 120-mm automatic mortar, and the command, control, and alert (C2A) system, which will be promoted separately from subsequent mass production.

Linked weapon systems and the next-generation military radio are core military assets and can be operated upon any enemy provocation. They have laid the foundation for data and voice communication in conjunction with the tactical information communications network (TICN).

In addition, as contracts were signed with related weapon systems, follow-up TMMR mass production is also being pursued.

Last year, LIG Nex1 completed the first mass-production delivery of radios for one infantry brigade, and completed a field operation test early this year. 

The next-generation military radio supervised by the Agency for Defense Development and developed with LIG Nex1 is a state-of-the-art network radio with multi-band, multi-function, and multi-channel performance that will replace the communications equipment currently used by the Korean military.

"With keen interest and support from industry, academia, research, and military officials, we have signed a contract for linked weapon systems. We will work hard to help the military strengthen its force by undertaking TMMR mass production without delay," said Kim Ji-chan, CEO of LIG Nex1.
