Dating My Best Friend’s Sister becomes webtoon in Korea

Dating My Best Friend’s Sister, a famous romance fiction by USA Today Bestselling author Violet Paige serialized on Radish, the web novel platform in North America of Tapas Entertainment, was reborn as a webtoon in South Korea.

Kakao Entertainment Co. the owner of Tapas, said on Thursday it launched a webtoon in Korean of the novel on its content platforms -KakaoPage and Kakao Webtoon - in the country. The digital comic was recreated by South Korean writers and artists.

Dating My Best Friend’s Sister is a love story of a secret heated romance between a girl and her brother’s best friend. The novel, which Radish has been publishing serially since 2019, logged some 50 million views with accumulated subscribers of about 400,000.

It was Radish’s first fiction to be reproduced as a webtoon in South Korea.

Kakao Entertainment, a unit of the country’s mobile platform giant Kakao Corp., and Trulite Korea, a startup that reproduced the fiction into a webtoon, plan to release digital comics of The Billionaire's Surrogate, Radish’s top novel, and My Pirate Prince, the platform’s historical romance, in South Korea in the first half of next year.

“We will continue to discover and introduce unique works from abroad and make efforts to improve the business synergy effect of global stories’ IP,” said Hwang Hyeon-soo, Kakao Entertainment story unit CEO, referring to intellectual property.
