South Korea's LG Uplus Corp. established a solar power facility to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
The facility spans 4,862 square meters, including the parking lot and playground, and comprises 1,740 dual-sided solar panels that produce 1.37 million kWh of electricity annually, about 11% of the annual electricity consumption at the Daejeon R&D Center.
This solar installation will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 630 tons annually, equivalent to planting 4,510 pine trees.
In September last year, LG Uplus installed a 61.36kW solar power facility at the Pyeongchon 2 Internet Data Center (IDC) in Gyeonggi Province.
The company plans to implement renewable energy generation facilities in future data centers.
LG Uplus has committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and joined the K-RE100 initiative in 2022. K-RE100 is a voluntary initiative by companies to use electricity produced from eco-friendly renewable energy sources.
