LG Uplus invests .4 mn in S.Korean edu-tech startup

South Korea’s No. 3 wireless carrier LG Uplus Corp. on Tuesday said it will make an equity investment of some 10 billion won ($7.4 million) in GrowV Education Inc., an educational technology company.

This move seeks to raise the content competitiveness of LG Uplus’ Children’s Country, an education over-the-top platform, and follows the company’s equity investment of 5 billion won in GrowV in February.

With this investment, LG Uplus secured priority in supplying GrowV content.  GrowV's Super V service provides educational content in subjects like English, math and Korean on tablets PCs for children ages 4-8.

The startup also creates its own content using artificial intelligence-based image recognition technology.

LG Uplus said 60% of GrowV's content is self-produced, which will raise the quality of what goes on Children’s Country.

Since last year, LG Uplus has invested in four edu-tech companies: GrowV Education, Hodu Labs, Enuma Korea, and Tictoccroc.
