SW based on Hancom's tech released in Taiwan

South Korea's office suite software maker Hancom Inc. on Monday said it has released Kdan Office, the Taiwanese office software co-developed with global software as a service (SaaS) company Kdan Mobile.

Using a software development kit (SDK) from Hancom, Kdan Mobile designed and developed Kdan Office's interface to meet the needs of Taiwanese users. This was also Hancom's first export of an SDK.

Hancom is also pursuing equity investment in Kdan Mobile. Launched in Taiwan in 2009, the latter specializes in document management services such as solutions for mobile PDF and electronic signatures, with over 80% of its sales from North America and Europe.

An SDK is the modularization of essential technologies to allow easy and quick creation of software. Based on its e-document know-how, Hancom supplies technologies such as document editing, formula calculation and optical character recognition in the form of SDKs at home and abroad.

After CEO Kim Yeon-soo took over in August 2021, Hancom began reorganizing its business portfolio under a strategy stressing "global," "data" and "service" to target overseas markets through its SDK and artificial intelligence units.

Kdan Office comprises the word processor Kdan Dock, spreadsheet Kdan Table and slideshow Kdan Brief. This launch was for products for public and corporate use and that for personal use software is due next month.

Taiwan, which mainly uses Microsoft Office, is expected to reduce its reliance on foreign office suite software through its first domestic edition Kdan Office.
