Korea's Hancom, Naver Cloud agree to cooperate in AI field

Hancom Inc. and Naver Cloud announced on Wednesday a strategic partnership to integrate Naver Cloud's large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) "HyperClova X" into Hancom Office Suite, which is used in the education and public markets.

As part of the agreement, Naver Cloud will apply HyperClova X to Hancom Office Suite, which is set to be released in July this year. The two companies aim to improve Hancom Office Suite's features to better cater to public institutions, such as schools and research organizations.

To achieve this goal, the companies will form a joint committee to develop customized AI functionalities and work closely to expand their business.

HyperClova X utilizes learning data from Korean language sources, including Naver news and blog posts, with a Korean language ratio of over 97%. Hancom explained that this makes it easier to implement AI services tailored to Korean characteristics. The model can understand Korean society, laws, systems and cultural context, which facilitates better communication compared to English-based models.

"Through our collaboration with Hancom, we will actively support our clients' AI transformations by expanding the domestic large-scale AI ecosystem," said Lim Tae-geon, Naver Cloud's Sales Executive Director.

"Together, we will enhance AI technology to make Hancom Office a next-generation document platform that surpasses traditional document production software and provides an improved user experience by applying super-large AI technology," commented Jin Seong-sik, Hancom's Business Unit Director.
