KISA launches ASEAN Cyber Shield project for strengthening cyber security

The Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) on Monday has announced the launch of the "ASEAN Cyber Shield" project, a major international cooperation effort between South Korea and the Southeast Asian Nations Association (ASEAN).

With a $9.8 million investment from the Korea-ASEAN cooperation fund over the next three years, the project aims to enhance cyber security capabilities among ASEAN member nations and is the largest collaboration in the information and communications sector to date.

KISA, the project organizer, will work with Kangwon National University, Gangneung Wonju University, and the University of Technology Brunei to carry out the initiative.

The project's key initiatives include the operation of an online cybersecurity curriculum in the region, research on cyber security certification schemes, ASEAN hacking defense competitions, and cyber security student exchanges.

"We will go beyond strengthening the cyber security capabilities of the ASEAN region and serve as a stepping stone for talented domestic cyber security operators to move into the ASEAN market," said Lee Won-tae, head of KISA.
