LG Uplus Corps. said on Sunday that it held a hackathon called "Hackstival" to compete for development skills of in-house software developers.
The company named the company's first hackathon "Hackstival" (hackathon+festival) with the intention to be a festival for developers.
The first annual Hackstival, in which nine teams participated, was held at the LG Uplus Magok building in Seoul's Gangseo from 9 a.m. to noon the next day.
An LG Uplus official said, "We expect to discover customer-oriented platform ideas through this competition and disseminate an in-house collaboration culture in the development process."
Kim Jae-eun, an employee of the mobile media service development team, who participated as a team "Talking Potatoes," whose members were comprised of those joining the company in the same year, said, "We developed an e-commerce app in which donations or purchases are randomly determined. Many developers showed interest in the news that the hackathon would be held, and I wanted to demonstrate my development skills and make fun memories."
The grand prize went to "400," a team consisting of four back-end developers who developed a P2P delivery brokerage platform.
Kim Tae-gyung, head of the advertising platform development team, said, "It was more meaningful as we worked with new hires and got good results," adding, "I hope that continuous learning could help LG Uplus leap forward as a platform company and that new ideas will lead to business opportunities."
