South Korea’s tech juggernaut Naver Corp. announced Monday that its Naver Band celebrates 10 years in service with more than 156 million app downloads.

The number of postings on the community social networking platform exceeds 6.1 billion so far.

The Band service began on Aug. 8, 2012, as a general social networking platform but grew to become a space where people with shared interests could join respective online communities.

Naver in 2019 introduced Mission Band, which helps people reach their goals, and Small Group Band late last year for hyperlocal communications.

While the platform was initially most popular among those in their 30s and 40s, it has become more popular among millennials and Gen Zers in recent years.

“Those in their 20s or under make up 26% of Band users,” a Naver employee told The Korea Economic Daily. “Mission Band in particular is attracting those who aspire to be role models to their peers.”

Naver plans to strengthen its Mission Band and Small Group Band activities going forward.

Kim Joo-kwan, the head of Group& within Naver said, “We plan to grow Band into a platform on which all types of meetings can be hosted.”
