POSCO Steeleon Co., a South Korean steelmaker and a unit of POSCO Group, said on Wednesday that its biomass color steel plate has been certified as an eco-friendly product by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL), a US safety and quality testing organization.
Biomass is a renewable material derived from plants or microorganisms instead of fossil fuels. POSCO Steeleon has developed a new steel plate that uses biomass paint extracted from corn cobs.
The company plans to develop and produce more products with features such as surface texture and antibacterial performance based on its biomass technology, and also obtain UL certificates for domestic and overseas sales.
It also aims to speed up the development of eco-friendly manufacturing technologies such as applying biomass to galvanized steel plate processes and saving energy.
POSCO Steeleon is promoting its eco-friendliness through its color steel plate brand "Infineli." It said it would proactively respond to environmental regulations and customer demands for carbon reduction through its green products and technologies.
