South Korea’s HD Hyundai Co. announced on Wednesday that it completed the building of a virtual reality shipyard, the first stage of its Future of Shipyard (FOS) project.
Since 2021, HD Hyundai and its shipbuilding affiliates have been working on the FOS project to transform itself into a smart shipyard, the first of its kind in the world, by 2030. All processes from design to production are connected in real time to build a shipyard that enables smart work management.
The key point of FOS first stage is Twin FOS. This is the 3D VR model of the actual shipyard. It allows the shipyard’s on-site data to be viewed simultaneously in a third location through digital transformation (DX).
HD Hyundai plans to complete the second stage of FOS, the connected prediction shipyard, by 2026. The company’s last goal of FOS is the intelligent autonomous operating shipyard. It will be finished in 2030.
