South Korea's HD Hyundai Co. and Korea University will jointly develop next-generation personnel to lead core business lines of the future.

Chung Ki-sun, president and CEO of the company that specializes in shipbuilding, machinery and heavy equipment, and petroleum, and the school's president Kim Dong-one on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on industry-university cooperation at the university's main building in Seoul.

Under their MOU, both sides will develop next-generation key talent to lead the fields of future ocean mobility, energy and cutting-edge construction equipment.

Every year, HD Hyundai offers to about 40 students of Korea University who pass a selection process the opportunity for on-the-job training as interns linked to employment. Those receiving high evaluations are recruited through interviews with company executives, and interns whose hiring is confirmed after the program ends get scholarships for their remaining semesters.

The event "HD Hyundai-Korea University Day" for graduate students also features the announcement of industry-academic tasks, lectures by top-tier executives and mentoring from alumni.
