LG Electronics Inc. has rolled out a new serving robot that easily serves soup, boosting the device's performance and customer convenience.

The company on Tuesday said it will unveil its third-generation LG Cloi ServeBot on April 19 at this year's World IT Show held at the Seoul COEX.

The new model has significantly improved driving ability with independent suspension applied to the six wheels that act as the robot's feet for stable movement even when carrying soup-type food such as rice soup or ramen. The company said it minimized soup spills caused by shaking due to sudden stops or driving.

The robot's driving range has also been greatly expanded. The Lidar sensor and 3D camera recognize a space to allow the robot to pass through automatic doors on its own. Since communication between robots is possible without an access point, over 10 of them can be operated stably.

At 532 mm wide and 444 mm long, the tray of the third-generation model is bigger than its predecessor, which was 500 mm by 400 mm, with a higher weight capacity of 40 kg, up by 10 kg. The tray can easily carry everything from Western food with heavy utensils to Korean cuisine with many items.

"The Servebot automatically senses weight and is designed to automatically move to the tray return area when the tray is full," an LG Electronics source said.

"LG Cloi ServeBot is being actively used at various distribution sales channels such as hotels and franchises at home and abroad," said Noh Gyu-chan, head of the company's robot unit. "LG Electronics will provide new experiences and value to customers through the development and application of differentiated robot solutions."
